New York City is one of the most unique places on Earth. Some people say it's the art, others say it's the people. I even heard someone saying it's the weather that makes the city something special. Either way, we all agree NYC is a place you can't miss. If it's your first time, or you've been there several times, it doesn't matter. You should try these:
1. Go to the Grand Central Station.
You might think I mentioned it because of the movies. And, partly, yes, I admit I said it because it's one of Hollywood's favourite movie sets. The other reason is the people. You can stand in the middle of the building and stare at the movement. It's unbelievably crazy when it gets crowded. But, it's definitely a good experience. One thing I recommend is going to the station on the busiest hour and then at night when it's all empty. I promise, it's worth it.
2. Have breakfast at Tiffany's.
If you haven't seen Breakfast at Tiffany's yet, you should. It's a classic, and t's one of my favourite movies too. I remember my first time in NYC, I walked by Tiffany's, and I saw a lot people taking pictures of the building. I think it's funny how one movie made the jewelry store one of the main attractions. And let me tell you something, it's true that everyone is so nice at Tiffany's!
3. Walk around Central Park.
You didn't go to NYC, if you didn't go to one of the most iconic parks in the world. There's always something to do there. Whether it's a free concert in summer or ice skating in winter. Maybe you can lay down and read a book or have a picnic and enjoy the view.
4. Visit the Empire State Building.
If you're a fan of the city's buildings, this is definitely your option. The view is spectacular no matter where you stand. The one problem is how crowded it can get. That's why I recommend to be one of the first ones in line and buy one of those ticket passes because they save up time. It's all worth it, I promise.
5. Eat hot dogs at the street.
It's one of NYC's classics. And you see it in movies as well. You can find them everywhere you go. Nathan's Famous and Gray's Papayas are the popular ones, and they're all really good. Plus, if you don't have too much money left, this a good way to stop hunger.
6. Go to a Broadway show.
As you probably know, NYC is known as the city that never sleeps. And part of it has to do with the theatre. You can find a variety of shows based on what you like: comedy, drama, musical, you name it. Some people go for the classics, others want to see the next Tony winner. It doesn't matter what you choose, you'll end up having a good time.
7. Spend time in Times Square.
If it's your first time visiting, you definitely have to go to Times Square. All tourists are there, it's always crowded, loud, fun, and full of colours. There's always interesting stuff happening there. You can go shopping and visit Disney's store, you can take pictures with Spiderman or Hello Kitty, or you can see some music performances. There are also walking tours, the Time Square Museum, and Madame Tussaud (in case your dream is to take a picture with your favourite artists or you're just into wax figures).
8. Have some pizza.
A lot of people love pizza, and New York is the place to have it. You can go to a restaurant, grab a table, and a have a whole pizza just for you. In case you want that, John's Pizzeria is an option. It's very popular, and it can get crowed, but it's worth it. The other option is to walk around and find a place where you pay 1 USD for a slice of pizza! Sounds like a good plan, doesn't it? Trust me, it is.
9. Visit the New York Public Library.
If you love books as much as I do, this will be one of your favourite spots. And if you're not a fan, it's still worth the visit. The building's architecture is really nice, and they have so interesting free exhibits. You can take a tour or explore and get lost in the books. It's up to you.
10. Walk on the Brooklyn Bridge.
You can rent a bike or you can just walk. It doesn't really matter because the view is amazing, and you'll probably want to take a lot of pictures. Brooklyn is a really fun neighbourhood with a different personality to Manhattan. You can find the Botanic Garden, Coney Island, museums, and lots of restaurants.
In conclusion, no matter what you do or where you go in NYC, you'll end up having a great time. And it's always better when you don't make plans and just spend the time exploring the beautiful city.
